Active soil substrate without the hassle – easy soil changes and Kallax-optimized!
Anyone who keeps invertebrates such as Caridina shrimp knows and appreciates the benefits of active soil: it reliably lowers the pH, stabilizes carbonate hardness, and provides plants with optimal nutrients. But soil has an expiration date – after a few months, its buffering capacity is exhausted. Until now, that meant emptying the entire aquarium, destroying the painstakingly created hardscape, and completely replacing the substrate. With the innovative SP Soil Background Slim, this aquascaping nightmare is now a thing of the past!

- Smart, extra-slim version: This model was specially developed for compact nano aquariums, 20-liter cubes, and popular Kallax aquariums. Thanks to its ultra-narrow design, the box takes up hardly any swimming space and disappears elegantly against the back wall.
- Hardscape remains untouched: The background is simply hung in the tank and filled with soil. Once the substrate is exhausted after some time, you simply remove the box, empty it, fill it with fresh soil – and you're done! No stress for plants, layouts, or animals.
- Optimal flow for lowering pH: The precisely positioned filter slots are exactly 1.5 mm apart. They guarantee a constant, highly effective water circulation through the soil bed, allowing the water-optimizing properties of the soil to be fully utilized.
- Shrimp-safe slots: The fine 1.5 mm slots safely keep almost all commercially available soil types inside the box. (Note: The use of very fine powder soil is not recommended).
⚠️ Important expert tip for the safety of your animals:
To avoid a sudden pH crash or a sudden, radical change in the usual water parameters, exhausted soil should never be completely replaced all at once. We strongly recommend filling the box gradually with fresh soil over several weeks during the change. This keeps the biological environment absolutely stable for your shrimp.
